Chair as an expression of worker’s individuality
This artwork series was inspired by a chair as an object and M. Foucault’s idea about the constructed “man-machine” complex as well as man’s body viewed as merely a tool of production. The period of industrialisation is often related to progress, discipline, guaranteed employment, well-being of workers, good working conditions and mass production. We can see the results of the mass production in our culture, which became a culture of mass consumption. However, certain questions arise when we look closer at the object of mass production, in this instance, the chair and the most powerful metal factory in USSR. The chair of a worker is not only a reflection of his image, usage frequency or purpose, but it also portrays his self-expression and creativity.
